Pajares railway tunnel, La Pola de Gordón, Spain
MSD was awarded a contract for the complete rolling stock for construction of the twin-tube 24.5 km long railway tunnel near La Pola de Gordón (Léon) in Spain.
A tunnel consisting of two tubes each 24.5 kilometres long is to be bored under the Pajares Pass in the Asturian mountain region of Spain through which the high-speed León-Oviedo railway line is to be routed. The line is due for completion in 2010.
The technical equipment for transporting people, spoil, lining segments, cement, etc. will be deployed behind the Herrenknecht AG tunnel boring machine with a diameter of 9.9 m. In total, MSD delivered 5 complete trains to our customer, Tuneles de Pajares.

The wagons, with a track gauge of 900 mm are all completely equipped with spring-mounted axles, pneumatic brake systems and "Willison" couplings. The maximum width of the wagons is 1600 mm and the maximum height is 2850 mm. The diameter of the wheels is 350 mm.
