The underground railway network in Marseille has existed since 1977 and since 1984 has had two lines. The two lines are being extended and lengthened to provide an improved link with the railway and tramlines. MSD is the supplier of the rear stiffening construction and the thrust rings, as well as the mortar-concrete distributor and the starter gasket.

For this project the scope of supply was divided into three sections:
  • one rear stiffening construction, one thrust ring, six thrust ring half-segments
  • a mortar-concrete distributor
  • a starter gasket

The steel structures are individually adapted to the wishes of our customer.

For example, contingency joints were attached for the rear stiffening construction, which were implemented on the construction site as screwed joints. This adapted steel structure has a total weight of approx. 32 tonnes.

MSD delivered the thrust ring, with a total weight of 21 tonnes, unassembled to enable it to be installed with the TBM.

The same principle proved to be useful for the thrust ring half-segments.
The segments were bolted to each other with at least 3 bolts, whereby one weighed 5.7 to and therefore the total weight was 34.2 tonnes.

The mortar-concrete distributor is made up of the following four components:
  • 1 structural steelwork, scaffolding
  • 1 mortar carrier 10 m³
  • 1 distributor for conveyor belt
  • 1 distributor for loading trucks

Equipped with an inflatable sealing hose and an additional sealing lip, MSD delivered the starter structure weighing 8.5 to to Marseilles.
